Any comments so far on how it's going? It's been 2 weeks ... good or bad, or don't know yet?

Uh-oh ... I hate it when BC gets on my case! I did a search and everything ... can you provide a link to the other thread?

well, considering Mississauga JUST started their 24's in 2007.....I didn't think there was a duplicate thread. So maybe fire and ice can provide the link.

maybe it's too early still for feed back , or there are no Miss. guys here.

There's no other thread about Mississauga's 24 hour shift system. I just did a search for it...there's Mississauga recruitment threads, but nothing about their specific 24 hour shifts. There are some threads about 24 hour shifts, but they don't address the specific question of this new set up and how it is working for this municipality.

Just like how we have two opticom threads now, because they each deal with a common topic but have different sub topics. Or something like that. Unless I missed a thread about Mississauga's shift system. If that is the case please provide the link to it, I'd be interested in reading it as well as this one.

Thanks!

AB

I'll give fireice the benefit of doubt........naw , that's no fun to do.

I think he jumped the gun and got his threads mixed up . Unless of course we're all wrong and him and the thread police can post the link.

zzzzzzz

still waiting.

I dint think Mississauga had opticoms that were 24 hr.I know that TO does not. However maybe next time they hire they will have them installed.

Speaking of 24 hour shifts, i heard a couple of departments had them taken away from them recently, Kingston and another... maybe Chatham (I don't think that's right, but sounds like Chatham... lol). Anyone have any input on that. I think the story goes that the Chief took it away.

Ding ding! Give the man a prize. You pretty much got the jist of the joke for BC, but he didn't comment . . .

I actually prefer DH's response -- is there a way to merge threads? You know, for the Opticom's on a 24 hour shift in Mississauga?

Negotiated into Collective agreement and it is a 2 year trial that can be cancelled by the city with 6 month notice. Lots of growing pains so far. Have been told by F/F's from other depts to give it 3 months and re-evaluate the situation.

Been in for 4 full 24hr periods so far

positives
less time on the road traveling, into work
morning drive in to work only
less gasolinenegatives
start times seem to be an issue. Under the old system official start times were 08:00 and 18:00, but shift changes were generally done at 07:00-07:15hrs and at 17:00-17:15hrs. 95% want to keep the 07:00-07:15hrs, but a few that were unhappy with the 24hr shift will not get on the truck untill 08:00. It will really cause some hard feelings
Of course days are long, if you don't get along with someone then it is intensified over the course of the 24.
Policies are being changed and of course all for the betterment of management, we are losing some things that were a given before.
Fridge space is an VERY pressing issue.
Seeing how we have not completed a full cycle it seems like we are constantly in one day, then off one or two and back in again. Feels like we had more free time before. Can't say too much as like I said it is only 4 days so far

Very interesting Cuppa. Definately keep us posted. I can see some of your points being an issue if it was tried out here..........But i'd still like to try it.....BC..............
