KAMLOOPS -- Bowing to politicians' demands, forest fire officials are scrambling so that thousands of evacuees can return home today even though roads are unstable and small fires are burning near many homes. "Essentially, all of us folks are products of the politicians and we make happen what it is they want to do, if, of course, it is safe and we can do it in a reasonable fashion," John Smith of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District's emergency operations centre said yesterday. "Some of the players were quite hesitant to do this," he admitted.
