View Full Version : Routine
Hey Looking for a workout routine. I have recently got back into running, I have been out of it for a while but back and doing fairly good. Looking to find some weight exercises that will help with not enough muscle. I'm not spaghetti or anything but need some more muscle and strength to the arms, shoulders, chest, and back. I figure the running will keep the legs in good shape. Also, do you recommend any supplements? I run almost every day and looking to start the weights. Thanks

Alot of folks think that running is all you need to do to keep your lower half in shape....not true. You'll need to work those fast twitch fibres by doing other exercises...weights (resistance), lunges etc. Running won't give you the power you may need/want.
I found Outside magazine pretty useful for strength building exercises.
If your at a gym ask one of the fitness instructors to set you up something.
As far as supplements....there is alot of hype about this and that, but the only one I've actually seen any positive scientific data (trustworthy) on is for creatine. Go for the 100% creatine monohydrate. Should be all you need if you maintain a healthy diet.
Any of this help?

Hey 12, I agree with PFD, do some weights for the legs as well... running will only increase strength until you plateau at your body weight.. .what I mean is, the weight of your body will increase leg strength until you need to add more weight to make it worth while... know what I mean?
As for a trainer at the gym, make sure he/she knows what they're talking about... I've hired a couple of trainers and been seriously disappointed. I trained with Peak Centre for awhile and loved it, but ran out of funds to pay for it... may have to bite the bullet and get back there. Supplements; I couldn't be bothered to take anything but a multi-vitamins and a high complex B vitamin.... nothing else has been proven one way or the other to be helpful... but they are chalk full of chemicals that your body may have a hard time understanding! Hard work and consistency pay off in the long run.
Also check out this site for some functional workouts... I can't wait for this place to open around the corner from me... this is my kind of workout!!
www.crossfit.com (Babs introduced me to this place).
