We had a call last night and while sitting in the truck I started to wonder. Am I caring too much. The person lost there kitchen and had a hole in the ceiling now leading to the out side of the house. They had nowhere to go or anything and had to stay there. I find that I have been caring more and more and am wondering if thats a bad thing. My emotions stay in check when I am doing the job and that is what I am focused on doing. But when we slow down that is when I have time to think. So what do you guys think about this?

Think Positive, was everyone safe, did you save most of their personal memorabilia, that's the important thing. Kitchens can be replaced, holes can be repaired. Hopefully they had insurance!
I have seen many kitchen fires over the years and the families have usually gained in the end, nice new kitchen, house all painted everything cleaned.:)

Don't worry, it's not you how put the fire. Say to your self: you done a good job and the best you can do. You save wath is possible. After a call you turn the page and you go to an other call and that all. After a call you may help to guide the person involve where to go or wath to do after. If you thing to much, you will get depression.

I do my job and what I am asked when I am on scene. I remind myself that what has happened is already done and all we can do is help, but I think it is totally normal to feel bad for a family or person that has lost everything. My community really seems to step up to the plate in situations like this and 99% of the time the families are looked after.

I must not have a heart, because I can't recall a single call where I have felt bad for the owners/ occupants. Ya, sucks for them, but it doesn't hit me emotionally.
