Hey I'm game... here's a recent pic of me in my freshly laundered bunker gear holding my daughter at a community demonstration of our extrication techniques. Our rescue truck is in the background.
In case you're wondering, she gets her good looks from her mom...

WHAT A GREAT IDEA! ASK FOR SOMEBODY'S PICTURE AND THEN QUESTION IF THEY ARE FOR REAL! I SUSPECT THIS WILL BE THE LAST POST ON THIS ONE

That's the problem with the bright yellow bunker suits... looks way too clean to be practical. Go figure. At least I'm highly visible on the fireground. Some of our guys have the greyish-yellow bunkers...hate to admit it but even the most pristine of these look more "battle worn" than my bright one... no matter how many times I roll around in the mud. I should switch to a black bunker suit, eh?

Stick with the bright coloured bunker gear, we need to be seen especially on highways at night doing auto ex calls.
Light coloured gear also shows dirt better so that we can be better at keeping it clean.
I had a fight with my former volly chief about not by black bunker gear. He wanted black so that it could hide the dirt better. We need to maintain clean bunker gear, the contaminants from fire scenes is some of the worst carcinogens known.
We should also NOT be carrying our bunker gear in our personal vehicles. You are now contaminating your vehicle and your family and friends that get in your vehicle.

I've got a black coat and yellow pants - after some of the bush and hay fires I've been on this summer, I can honestly say I'd rather spend an hour after each fire cleaning a bright yellow or beige coat than having to wear my solar-panel of a coat in the summer :)
Black gear is bloody *hot* in the summer - We've got enough heat to deal with from the fires we're putting out than to add to it by solar heat.
Besides, anyone on a volly department should know that budgets are tight - cleaning your gear shouldn't be anything to complain about, since they're expensive to replace - heaven knows we could all use extra stuff that would be more available without having to worry about replacing bunker gear that simply wasn't cleaned regularly :)

We use Chieftan which is light brown. Our old stuf is yellow and yes it gets dirty but i still like mine, the brown. we are starting to get our gear professionally cleaned for about 22 bucks a set and they also stich any holes for that price as well. pretty good deal. and we have a super duty washing machine at the hall which we use as needed.

What company are you getting the cleaning done? Are the repairs done to factory standards with the correct materials?
