I don't know much about these web sites, but would it be hard to have a chat area. then if you are visiting the site you can chat with whoever is on line.

Live chat is something that will be coming to Firehall.com in the future. Keep an eye out for it.

Raidersoft offers a free java chat. I've seen other free ones but that is the best free one I have seen so far.

It all depends whether you want to run a server constantly or leave it on some-one elses. If you want to run your own server then there are lots of IRC programs that will suit your need. Just one word of advice, ensure that you can moderate it at all times (I speak from experience) because these things turn into a soap opera in a hurry.
