In Mill Bay, they're volunteer firefighters. In Kamloops they were like rock stars. "Everywhere we went in Kamloops, people were so appreciative. They'd see our shirts when we were walking down the streets and they were screaming, 'we love you,' 'great job,'" said Jeff Lane, one of three Mill Bay volunteer firefighters who returned from the inferno in B.C.'s interior Saturday night. The group, which also included William Ripley and Capt. Cliff Braaten, went to the Kamloops area last Sunday when asked by the Office of the Fire Commissioner to assist in extinguishing the McLure and Strawberry Hill fires. Another trio from the Mill Bay Fire Department has replaced them and will also stay for about a week.
