old fire estinguisher (maybe?)

I have a fire estinguisher which I just got out of an old house and am looking for some information on.
Here are the specs.
All Bras unit about 15 inches long and 2 inches in diameter.
It is a pump style unit with a "T" pump handle.

The markings on it are as follows.
Hamilton Township farmers mutual insurance co.
general quick aid fireguard
heavy duty model 85
the general fireguard corp ltd
windsor ontario

..snip...refill with tested vl 60 fluidonly. water or substitutes will damage pump.....
25% carbon tetrachloride
VL-60 fluid is anti-freeze
made in canada
Capacity 5/6 imp.qts.
serial number 39165 c

Any help would be most helpful. I am not looking for a monitory level. and am more interrested in the historical value.

Picture would be great... don't know much but love looking at old stuff.

Carbon-tet extinguishers were phased out in the mid 50's because when it comes in contact with heat, deadly chlorine gas is given off. So it's at least 50 years old (an antique, in my books... unless you're talking about a 50 yo firefighter).

Check out ebay -- search for antique fire extinguisher and you'll find some examples of the "Quick Aid" extinguishers that often were rebranded to local insurance companies -- perhaps as promotional items. Just make sure it's empty... carbon-tetrachloride is bad stuff to have around the house. Would look good hanging above my fireplace though...

Looks like a popular model, manufactured in several different configurations -- the 85HD seems more prevalent ("Heavy Duty"?). Here are a few links to eBay auctions for similar items (hopefully with the contents removed). Looks like it would make a great item to hang by the wood stove in the rec room or at the firehall!
