Got a question for the medics out there. Currently living in the Edmonton area (not that it should matter). For those of you who have done distance learning to become a paramedic where did you guys go? As well as which locations have good reps and bad reps? and good agreements for practicum placement. And anything else that might be helpful.
Thanks in advance

From what i've heard, the program offered by Portage College in Lac La-Biche is really good.

Just wondering if the programe with training division is any good. Any taken it? I am currently going through the fire fighter course with them. I would like to take their EMT programe after, so any info on if it is good or not would be welcome. Thanks Jay.

From some people I have talked to about distance education ( Portage, Augustana) it depends on the type of learner you are. If you learn well from reading and comprehending, you should do well as there are not many days for classroom lecture and clarification of didactic information.

Also classtime for skills practice is less than a traditional delivery modality. A couple of working medics that I have talked to do not have very high regard for these distance programs.

But then again, whatever program you take, alot depends on yourself. You get out of the program what you are willing to put into it. If it was my choice, I would choose either NAIT or PMA being in your area, but that is just personal preference.

Thanks, I am fairly good at looking at something then doing it. I come from a medical family, beening most of my family are doctors. So I will have them to help me if I need it. Hope the course is good. If anyone has info on it please send me a PM or post here. Thanks again.

Portage is excellent, I know many who have taken through portage's distance learning program but it all in the end comes down to how you learn. If you learn by lectures and actually doing the stuff and seeing it done just go take it in a school its faster in the end. If you can learn easily on your own and like reading LOTS, then maybe the distance learning program will work for you.
