I've been wondering if anyone has come across the EMR program in Ontario before or yet for that matter. The Canadian Red Cross Currently offers the First Responder program as the top end of training in this province before becoming an instructor or taking the Paramedic program through a recognized college followed by the AEMCA testing. I've heard rumors that it will become available as soon as this Spring time.

The EMR is recognized as the "Lowest" (no offence to any EMR's) level of training to be able to work on an Ambulance throughout many parts of the country.

The Red Cross is or will be training instructors to teach the course which is roughly double in length (80 hours vs. 40 hours) for the First responder course in Ontario. From what I have heard instructors are limited to people within the healthcare industry ie. Paramedics, Nurses, or Doctors...

Has anyone heard rumors or am I spilling the beans????

Dont know nuttin about it.The best place to check would be MOHASB.

The MOH used to have an 80 hour course that was taught to vollunteer ambulance services of which there was about 10 in Ontario at one time.Dont know if it is still offered.

The EMR course is apox. 140 hours done over 30 days and usually runs once or twice a year. The course includes hospital and ambulance rotations as well as extended simulations. wildmed.com

The original question was regarding availability of the new Red Cross EMR course. I believe your EMR course is from a different service provider/province?

Actually WMA runs lots of courses in Canada through various wilderness education providers... didn't look, but I'm sure they have a list of canadian associates. Their certifications are generally well backed and recognized worldwide (ie I would put money on them having researched the EMR status in Canada and if their course would be recognized.)

Yup...they do offer a course equivalent to the EMR here in Canada. Paddlefoot offers the equivalent course as well. If you have a month free here is the link. http://www.paddlefoot.ca/emtbasicwemt.htm

So far they are the only ones I'm aware of that have scheduled Red Cross EMR courses in Canada. There are 3 different sessions scheduled....2 on weekends only and 1 on weekdays.
The link will take you there.
