Question for those who have a gym at your station. Who purchased the equipment, the FD or the union?

One other thing - what is the policy for exercising on shift? When are you allowed and for how long.

We don't have anything setup here right now and I want to get something going in the near future.

Thanks.

Originally our equipment (universal gym, xbikes and rower) were purchased with assistance from Wintario and the union.

Like many halls we also have lots of donated equipment. Stuff guys aren't using at home. ;) Jeesh! How many stations now have stability balls bouncing around?

Quite some time after amalgamation the city came up with a points plan (double halls got double points) where you could choose various types of aerobic equipment from a list and purchase them with said points. You could "go over" your points total but the difference would be made up in cash paid by the crews.

You can workout whenever you are not involved in any other fire hall task.

Here the city supplies an excercise bike...

Everything else in the gym is bought by the stations fund (every FF in the station pays $6-10 per pay to pay for cable, internet, satellite box, gym equipment, new sofas...).

My station has a very nice little gym, we don't have a ton of stuff as we are only a 1 truck station so only 20 guys to pay for everything :) On a day shift I generally train around 3pm, on a night shift I train around 9pm. There is no "set" training time, but it is entered in the daily activity log.

We have:
2 bikes
1 threadmil
1 leg press
1 small bench
1 large bench press
short olympic bar + curl bar + weights
decen set of dumbells
1 multi function cable machine
Floor mats
TV and a stereo of course :)

Ours is a fiddy fiddy deal. The city also matches us $ for $ in saving for replacement and new stuff.

We can workout at lunch or after 16:00 M-F

Anytime at night or weekends.
