Hey all,
So im in the process of organizing a water shuttle hosted by our dept. with hopefully 5 other depts. As of right now our shuttle route will be approx 14 km's round trip. Now, I dont know what the other dept policies are, but whats everyones ideas? Should we run full lights and sirens? Just lights? Nothing since its just a practice?. Lemme know.

I don't know if your familiar with the Annapolis Valley at all Jon, mostly in the Middleton area, but we used to do a Tanker Shuttle every year in Margaretsville. Our route I think was about 11 or 12 K's for tanker shuttle to a port-a-tank where there would be crews practicing attacks on an old building.
For a few years we ran lights the whole time, but the last year I took part before coming up to Ontario we went no lights. I guess it's up to you and your other organizers whether you want to or not.
Theres a couple shots from the last one I was involved in.

Running lights and sirens without there being a real emergency is a huge liability waiting to happen. Someone would be hung out to dry should there be an accident. It's not worth the risk in my opinion.

i have to agree with ham on this one if something was to happen, some a hole lawyer would tear everyone involved apart. lights and sirens are for emergencies only and give us privileges if safe to do so.

Running with lights and sirens causes normal people to do stupid things. Whether that be the driver of the apparatus or the civilian you are approaching. Avoid it!!!

I guess I forgot to mention that Margaretsville has a population of about 10 people. I think the entire day I saw 3 maybe 4 cars

We just did our superior tanker shuttle accreditation test over the week-end and passed flowing just under 450 gpm using 4 tankers (1600 gal each) , you aren't allowed to use lights and sirens during the test, minimum distance is a 10 km round trip from fill site to attack pumper. Also everything must be set up and water flowing in under 5 mins (which is a lot of time considering it should be done within 2 mins of getting ats) you must use a monitor that is set up on the ground and not up on the truck (so the guy doing the testing can measure the flow) Muskoka lakes just did their's as well on the week-end achieving 625 gpm, not sure what size there tankers are and how many they used. You aren't allowed to deplete the rest of your township when doing the test either, and the fill site must be accessable 24/7-365 and must be able to supply the amount of water to meet the standard. ie. a small pond would not suffice! Anyhow just thought I'd share
Nice Work, I knew you guys could accomplish the feat with little trouble, now get on the phone and see if your insurance guy is going to give you a discount:D
