A 23-year-old firefighter from Ladder 146 died this afternoon after he fell several floors while battling a blaze in Brooklyn.

The fire broke out just before 5 p.m. at four-story building on Meserole Street in Williamsburg and took over an hour to extinguish.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta said Queens resident Daniel Pujdak slipped while on the roof and fell to the ground.

Witnesses say it was a frightening scene.

“When I see him step up on the roof, I just seen him tumbling down,” said one witness. “That’s all I saw, him tumbling down. I just shut my van off and ran to the scene.”

“It was bad,” said another witness. “He was coming down really quick. He was coming down screaming.”

Pujdak was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He had been on the job for two years.

No one else was injured in the fire.

Fire officials say the fire was caused by an unattended cigarette left by the window.

This has not been a good week.

I've made a facebook album dedicated to fallen brothers from over the years, inlcuding Allandale 57 and the W6.

Makes you appreciate your life a little bit more.

Take a moment each shift and thank God that you are there to help and serve your calling and then ask him to protect you as you step into the danger zone for one more tour
Rest in peace

our job is more than service, honour and bravery it is who we are and what we are meant to do - remember the fallen

The price this week has been high
