When your department gets a new emergency vehicle does everyone in your department have to train a certain amount of hours on that vehicle before it goes into service?

We just received a new tanker last night. NO ONE moves the truck until they have read, understand, and are fully trained on the use of that vehicle, and any new equipment it may have on it. One or two trainer facilitators will be factory trained and then it is upto them to sign off ffs. Furthermore, nobody jumps on that rig without that training. No exceptions, or you are really gonna have some splainin to do.

There should be proper training delivered for ANY new equipment, be it a vehicle, extrication equipment, SCBA or what ever. This training should be provided to all on the department before the equipment goes into service.
It is also a must to DOCUMENT this training, if there should be any kind of mishap, that will be the first question asked.

The time allotted may depend on many circumstances, but in the end all should be signed off as being competent in the operation and use!!

I love how you are expected to pick up a reserve/spare/wreck rig at any moment and become familiar enough with it to put it in service within minutes, however you need a day or two of training for a brand new piece of aparatus...
