What is the process for taking a shift off?? We need to find another FF to agree to work that day or night, get permission from your Captain, put it in the leave book and the calendar and it is a done deal!! But you do owe that FF a shift that you pay back when he need's a shift off!!:D :D

Our process is exactly the same, but we also have 12 lieu days that we can take in pay or apply for at maximum 15 days before the day we need the time off. If it does not cause staffing to go below minimum causing overtime we are allowed the time off.

We don't need the Captain's okay for a shift change, just the DC's ... mind you, if that shift change is with an idiot, you'll hear about it from the fellas and will be strongly suggested that you don't switch with him again!
As for lieu days, Leafs Fan you're lucky ... we also get the 12 lieu days, but if you don't use them up before the end of the year, you lose all but two of them. (no pay).

We submit a duty exchange sheet with the name of both guys and dates of exchanges. This gets sent to the DC. We usually send out the duty exchange anyways so it doesn't matter what they are like. Some places don't because they think it is harder to get exchanges then, but we look after our own house first. We pick our lieu days at the start of the year with holiday picks. If time is available we can switch them later.

Yup similar to Scoop, we have to submit a shift change form to the D/C. Capt can't grant leave longer then 1 hour. Shift changes must be paid back within 90 days. I've gotten screwed in the past when guys were transfered or promoted. I HATE doing shift changes

We don't really need permission. Once we find the trade, the Captain will sign it off and then fax it to the duty office.
