Hi,

I joined this site for another reason, but realized that this is the perfect place to ask about something very important to me which I'd like to verify:

Sept. 17, 1945
Beaconia/Balsam Bay, Manitoba.
fatal house fire,
Rural N.E. of Wpg. near Grand Beach.

IS there anywhere that there might be a record of this house fire? And if so, where?

My grandfather, and great-grandfather, perished in that fire I was told. I would like to verify the fire and lives lost if at all possible.

Thank you.

Would that be in Winnipeg as the closest city to that rural fire?

Do I just call a firehall here (Wpg) to find the number for the Fire Commissioner?

(sorry to be so ignorant  about this)

Thanks,

K.

Hey, much obliged FF17  I think I'll try the email for starters. Wish me luck as I'm trying to piece together family history information to do geneology/fam hist for my kids and other family. We don't have any firefighters in the gene pool but am researching our soldiers WW1 and WW11.

This fire in question happened on the birthdate of my grandfathers son who had been captured and murdered after D-Day landings (June 8, 1944) My grandfathers death date is Sept 17, 1945 ... and I was always told Grandpa died in a house fire (along with Granny's Father) My grandparents had received official confirmation that yes indeed Uncle had been confirmed killed (the murder by Hitlerjugend had yet to be known) not long before this fire. I think grief. I think coal oil lamps. I think alcohol to drown the sorrow?..... :( I'd like the story as much as i can know.

I also think of my Granny who learned she'd lost her son, then lost her husband AND her father, on her fallen sons birthday.

I want to verify these things ... so I thank you.

Take Care.

Just a quick note to say I've ALREADY received a reply from the Fire Commissioners office asking my grandpas name and name of property owner ... amazing! I hope this means there ARE records!!!

Thanks again FF17 ... I owe you! especially if there are records :D You've done a good deed ... carry on ;)
