So here is the question... who is using what, what fire service has essentially dedicated their annual budget to what Manufacturer. Anyone using one of the Smaller Manufacturers body's.

You unfortunately missed Spartan on your poll, they build a fantastic chassis. 18 of our newest pieces are Spartan and they are light years better than the Excrement-One chassis we used to get. The next round of pumpers will be Spartan/Rosenbaur and I cannot wait.

We currently have an Anderson Engineering engine built
on a Spartan chassis, a Smeal aerial ladder built on a Spartan
chassis, and a Superior rescue built on a Freightliner chassis.
We are currently meeting with a variety of different manufacturers
while we spec out two new engines. I'm sure that both will have
Spartan chassis, no matter who builds them for us. ;)
Stay safe !!

Ours are Sutphens, nice rigs, a little on the loud side, but they do sound bad ass. My only complaint is that the cab is tight, anyone taller than six feet will feel cramped in the leg room department.

Sorry but to clarify I was putting up this poll for Manufacturers not the Chassis Builders....

20 yearsold is what we buy in the "NO TAX BASE" world.
I guess we have no thumbs.:D
I think NFPA says 25 years for a primary unit though if I am not mistaken.
We are just pulling a '77 out of service.

Fort Garry and a POC.
Fort Garry does nice work.
Anyone not considering them should reconsider.
Two departments I have been a volly for have had them and their after sale support is fantastic.

Now I realize that not every Department can afford to spend 200,000 minimum per vehicle everytime the 20 yr mark passes. However I believe that my comrades are entitled to good equipment and safety devices.... That being said open cabs should go!

We're running a Superior pump on a 91 Gmc top-kick chassis. This has been a pretty good machine over-all.
Our rescue is on a 04 Gmc chassis and was built by Ashphodel. Not impressed with this one in the least. Lots of piddelly little things going wrong and absolutely no service from the company.
Our tanker is on a 73 gmc chassis with a local built tank.

We are runnin a '88 Ford done by Ft.Garry, for some reason in their infinite wisdom they bought it with a manual transmission, and under powered. Our tanker is a 1969 GMC, they put a new engine in it a few years back. Its also a manual transmission with NO POWER STEERING...good god!!.
We are looking at getting a Rosenbauer on a Freightliner chassis with the Mercedez diesel. Tonight the Chief mentioned something about "Crimson", is anyone running these??........If so how are you liking them?
Nanaimo Fire Rescue is getting 2 rigs in the next couple of rigs, I will keep my ears open to see what they get. They have a Peterbuilt Tender at Hall 1 and Hall 7 got a 4-Door Kenworth (I believe its a Rosenbauer)

We have two trucks from Metalfab, and one homegrown, all procured in the last three years.
The tanker's a 1998 FL80, "two-holer" cab, 10-speed manual with a Cat. The pumper's a 2000 FL70, three-man cab, 6-speed manual. I forget what the FL70's powerplant is. Both bought secondhand as cab/chassis and fitted out as fire trucks by Metalfab. They're a big step up from the old trucks!
The Rescue is a 1997 F350 regular cab, 4WD, diesel. We got it about a year and a half ago as cab/chassis, and fitted it with a utility body we bought secondhand. The painting and some mechanical work were hired out, and we did the rest ourselves.
Hopefully when the time comes to replace these, we'll have figured out a way to accomodate longer trucks with crew cabs! :D

Engine 1 - 2000 FL 80/Fort Garry Body (Allison Automatic w/ Cat Engine)
Engine 2 - 1991/1992 Ford F-8000 Cabover/Superior Body (Auto Tranny)
Medic 1 - 1991 Ford E-350 Crestline Type 2 Ambulance
Command - 2006 F-250 Crew Cab 4x4
I am not the biggest fan of Fort Garrys design on our truck, but the craftmanship is good. I took a look at some of the new Rosenbauer trucks (Tech Drive and one of the Manufacturers). Nice Rigs!!! Would love to get an Airwolf for the Airport and a Viper 100ft Quint (if wishing made it so)
As a non taxed based community in Nunavut we get a repacement truck when a rig reaches 20 yrs old....
