More than 5,000 people south of Kelowna were forced out of their homes Thursday night as the immense and volatile Okanagan Mountain Park forest fire spread to within Kelowna city limits. Darron Campbell of the B.C. Forest Service said the orders to evacuate came at 7:45 p.m. after the fire broke through a fireguard line about three kilometres south of 1,000-1,200 affected homes. Campbell said forest crews were trying to re-establish a fireguard Thursday night and fire department crews were on scene to try and prevent the destruction of homes.
