CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI — The Charlottetown Fire Department made its first rescue with its new boat Monday to help a hunter stranded on a small island in Pownal Bay. The hunter was using a canoe to collect decoys in the bay. But when the weather got bad and he couldn't get back to shore. He made it to the island where he used his cellphone to call for help. Tim Jenkins was one of the volunteer firefighters who used the new Zodiac to make the rescue. "We had roughly half metre to a metre sea out there. You're getting tossed around pretty well," says Jenkins. Jenkins says on average the department is called on for this type of rescue four or five times a year. The new rescue boat cost $65,000.
