Hi Guys We haver been doing kindergarden tours of our hall for the past 8 years or so and are looking for a few new ideas for passing on info to the little people.

This is what we are doing.

1- Tour the hall
2- Explian the special # 911
3- Sparky's ABC's or Jimmy the Cricket fire safety Video
4- Stop Drop Roll
5- Let them handle some of the equipment.
6- Have a member put on full turnouts with BA and remind them its not a monster but a friend.
7- Hand out Fire prevention materials
8- Do a colouring contest with prizes the catch is they have to hand in a home escape plan done with the parents to qualify.

Any other ideas would be greatly accepted. Thanks Folks

Important notice when dealing with small children.

Do not put our helmets on kids. We were sent a notice years ago about a kid having a dislocated neck injury from wearing a helmet during a station visit. This occurred on a California fire department.

When dealing with small children our public relation dept. says that we should keep it short and cover the main facts. After 20 minutes you will loose their attention and they will want to start telling their own stories.

Get a small "kid size" set of turnout gear without the lining. They really seem to like that. One of those toy plastic helmets works better and saves you a law suit like Billy stated.

We also let them turn on a 38 (with us holding it and attached to a lower off truck pressure source) and knock over pylons... they like that too.

Dressing up a member in full gear and talking through the BA is a great idea like WFD stated.
