I was at a call a couple nights ago and a BMW rear ended a car who then hit another car. The BMW was the only one really damaged so we were trying to disconnect the battery but couldn't find it. It wasn't in the trunk and then we checked underneath the back seat because one of the bystanders said thats where it might be. But it ended up being in a plastic compartment on the right side of the trunk.
Not a big deal but just a heads up because he could of been a big deal but for us it was just a precaution.

Handy to have a holmotro book. This would pin point the battery(s) location as well as other things such as capacitor discharge times and the amount and location of all air bags.

Another thing to consider is that some of those done-out tuner cars sporting massive stereos will install another battery in the trunk, or another out of the way place to keep their systems powered.
Something to consider ...

We carry the holmatro book in our rescue unit.
Great piece of information for us on scene.
And it shows that the officers can read!! (hee, hee)

We just went though a Auto course at our dept and battery placement was a issue. Most high end cars now hide there batteries all over the place like, I think Mersadies(sp) hides some of there batteries on the passeger side front, behind the front tire. You actually have to remove the front tire to get at it. I hear some car companies that hide there batteries relieze now they are imparing safety for us on a MVA so they are grounding the unit on the passeger side on the strut hub under the hood clearly marked. Cut that cable you kill the whole car. Some other cars are being equiped now with small charges in the trunk where if you get into a accident (like a air bag) this unit blows and cuts off power to the fuel control system, engine etc, etc, limiting the need to cut the power at the battery. Watch out for the Vipers though I don't think it has this system and there batteries are in the trunk under the carpet floor board, in it's own compartment that has a cover plate.

We have found kenworth conventionals with batteries under the drivers door. You have to unbolt the fairings to get to it though!! Bring a socket set!!

I used to work at an automotive parts store and I have this copy of where the batteries are located as well. I THINK there's 9 different places that they can be found at. It's sad really...cause noone cares that the battery was traditionally found under the hood in plain sight!
in some of the western star trucks The batteries may be in the cab in the base of the passenger seat.

We also carry the Holmatro book in our rescue truck. Good reference for all information on the various motor vehicles we deal with.
We also keep a copy at our radio desk, so that person assigned to the radio can look up information if you are busy on scene.
And yes - even though I am an Officer - I can read !!
If you are looking for the Holmatro book, try George Klemm at KGC Fire Safety. His phone number is (250) 248-9244, or try his website at www.vehiclex.com.
Stay safe !!
