Might be me, but I wasnt able to find anything related to infectious diseases in previous topics. Im wondering while on the job if your diagnosed with hep A-C, AIDS, etc what does the department do? If it doesnt effect your performance on the job are you able to continue being a firefighter?

First off are you contracting this OTJ or through recreational means.
If you become infected through pt contact you are covered by WSIB.Just remember to fill out contact reports for each exposure. It is hard to say what a dept will do it would have to be a case by case decision. These are communicabke diseases and as FF you shre extremly close quarters with your crew and share many items such as cutlery glasses etc.I may not wash things as well as the next guy so it is a real concern
If you catch it off the job I hope you have a good sick plan whether its on vacation or through misadventure.

Hey FutureFF
here is some info about contracting it through work exposure http://www.ofm.gov.on.ca/english/FireService/announcements/Public%20Safety%20Health%20Bulletins/sars/pdf/Disease.pdf
Also if you are talking about acquiring these infectious diseases via recreational or personal lifestyle .. if you get a blood test at a doctor anywhere in Canada at its a notifiable disease your doctor is required by law to notify the public health unit. Its a criminal offence to transmit a disease knowingly to another person ..
here is some info on that
http://www.toronto.ca/health/cdc/communicable_disease_surveillance/list_disease.htm
I did some research on communicable diseases and working with the public also did some work with health canada on SARS and antibiotic resistantance in the public service front line workers ..i can send you the info if you want it
Cheers
