SASKATOON -- Saskatchewan sent its biggest single contingent of firefighters to British Columbia Monday to help fight hundreds of blazes in the Kamloops fire district. One hundred and fourteen men and women from northern Saskatchewan travelled through Saskatoon Monday afternoon on their way to B.C. The fire-ravaged province needs a fresh supply of firefighters and equipment after dealing with a steady increase of fires in southern B.C. since the beginning of the month, when the provincial government declared a state of emergency. Many of the more than 3,450 firefighters have been on the job for weeks, and need to be relieved by fresh workers.
