I'm 6'3 and wear size 13 shoes (11 boots) and have had some troubles doing the leg lock in comparasion to a shorter guy say 5'10 wearing size 7 boots. It is espically bad if the fly section is not completly up and I am attempting to do a leg lock through the two sections of the ladder instead of just one.
Anyone have any "tips" in regards to this or should I just send a shorter guy up? :D

Same problem here, then once you finally get the lock in, your leg goes to sleep. and then you just about need to be double jointed to get out of the dang thing afterwards.
I guess that one of the benefits of being an officer, I don't have to do that any more.

Yup, I vote for the short guy.
We have a couple of hose towers like you, and they struggle as well. More so on the older ladders. The new ones seem to be wider and easier to wiggle into.
At least you can double as an elevated master stream. ;)

We have run into the Safety question with applying a Leg Lock while 30 feet up. Our Answer was to supply all members going up a ladder with a ladder belt and locking clip. Once in position they lock the clip onto the rung.

I have not done the leg lock excpect in training almost 3 years ago. I expeclily dont like ladders. But one fear I do have while doing the leg lock is lossing my boot.

yup same problem here... 6'3" and size 12 shoes (10.5 boots)... it's damn finnicky to get into the leg lock (worse getting out). as has been said... we just get to me a non-mechanised master stream :p

Man do we have different problems...lol. I'm 5'6 and use a ladder at home a heck of a lot more than at fires. We had a good fire on Monday where I found myself going up and down the roof a lot. I swear the rungs on our fire ladders are at least 8 inches further apart than my ladder at home. In fact I think that the ladders in my new fire department are different than my old hall.
I was sore the next day.
