For those who haven't been to the video training section of fireengineering.com there are some new postings......ladder locks and sweeping are two which I haven't seen before.

Neat videos.

The ladder techniques look very useful as stability aids, but I wouldn't consider them a complete replacement for a true leg lock. None of the techniques shown are failsafe, meaning a failure of one point of contact could still potentially result in a fall. A true leg lock will not release even if the FF is struck by falling debris, or looses consciousness. His techniqes applied with a standard ladder belt would be a quicker failsafe option too.

The point made that most guys aren't using any form of a lock is valid, so something is better than nothing, but the technique should be appropriate for the job at hand. Brreaking a standard glass window is relatively easy, forcing a storm window or breaching a wall, etc, is a more complicated maneuver requiring a more stable footing.
