We will be purchasing a new First Response/Rescue Vehicle in 2005. Presently have a 1990 4x4 Suburban. Lots of rust, getting to be high mileage.
We definitely want a new 4x4 but the First Response Co-ord and Chief have not really decided on what to put on the truck.
Any suggestions welcome.
We are a small volly dept covering a large area.

Old Cigar, I have looked at your post a number of times, and it is such a wide open question that it is hard to respond to. What do you require this unit to do? Primary and secondary functions?
Mini-pumper, MVA rescue, wild fire, personnel transport, Equipment hauler? Major or minor off-road capability? There are so many configurations, and so little time.
As much as I am not a Ford fan, the 450 or 550 chassis is a good starting point, depending on where the GVW will be when you are done. Regular cab or crewcab. Wheelbase determined by cab size and box size.
So throw us (as I am sure that I am not the only one with this dilemma) a little more info and I'm sure you will get a response.

Durham EMS has recently gotten 4 RV vehicles from the provincial government, they have puschased many more because they are such an asset to the force now. They work great and response time is at an all time high!:D
