That's what we use. I like it. If measured properly (that is key) it will fit nicely. The suspenders are almost redundant as the belt makes the pants fit like......well .....pants.

The knees and elbows are formed real well. No pant creeping up the boot when crawling or climbing ladders. It is a zipper, so it takes a bit to get used to if you are used to clips. The pockets come with lined hand warmers (super nice). I've seen guys not even know they were there. But once you know, your hands will be in there all the time in the winter.

The neck protection is nice when in place, but took me a while to get used to put it in place properly. The folds on the back allow to reach up and far without tightness or jacket creeping up. When back to normal position, the folds take up the material so you don't have a bulky jacket. I think they call that the Action Back. It works real well.

Thermal protecton is decent. I wear one of my set when teaching flashover and it protects and lasts.

The weight of the gear is night and day compare to what I had before.

The new jackets come with DRD (Drag Rescue Device). It's now NFPA Standard. Mine does not have it, so I have no experience with it.

I am OFC Flashover instructor and Emergency Patient Care Instructor. I teach all the mod courses (A through E) for OFC out of the Kingston/Loyalist Twp Campus. I am also a Firefighter Survival/RIT Instructor, but I can only teach for my department right now as I still need to be monitored to to en OFC course.

For all courses, you are fine at 18 years old. What Department are you looking at volunteering with? Where are you located?

Hey 30,
Our dept. is renewing all turnout sets with the G-XTREME. I've had my set for almost two years now and cant say enough about how good it is. The range of motion is the best I've ever had. The DRD device works excellent and resets easily. We had the smallest FF on our crew drag my 270lb mass on concrete and carpet with no problem. Otherwise I'd concur fully with 78's assessment.
Good luck with your training.
