As I noted recently in another thread, I'm not a firefighter, FT, PT, industrial, volunteer or otherwise. However, I am a buff, or more accurately, an apparatus photographer. On nice days from May to October (when I can get away), I occasionally drive around and see if I can find any trucks to shoot. I've been doing this for nearly 15 years - I have no idea how many rigs I've shot, but it's at least a couple of thousand in three provinces and one territory. It's just a hobby - I do post some stuff online and my stuff has been published in a couple of books (never for money though).

So I wanted to thank all of you...not just for protecting our communities and risking your lives, but for helping a guy out when he stops by and asks you to pull out a truck or five and pose it in the sun for a picture. I've only ever been turned down a few times and even then almost always with good reason. Generally, I meet friendly helpful firefighters who don't mind taking a few minutes out of their day.

So again, thanks, and sorry for being a pain in the a$$.

I should also mention that there are whole clubs of us here in Ontario (including the Ontario Fire Buffs, www.ofba.ca) and others around the country who do the same thing. I can't speak for the others, but I'm sure they would want their appreciation noted too.

Attached is a rig I shot last weekend - a 2007 Pierce Dash 1750/500/105' quint from Clarington, ON (Station 1 in Bowmanville).

Cheers,
