It all depends on where you want to be. If it doesnt matter look up the cities that you want to go to and look up the recruitment info. You took the EST program at Vermillion right. Did you stay in a dorm or did you find a private house to stay, what is the rent like. thanks for any help. Later

EDMONTON they are having a huge hiring year next year. They are planning to have 3 classes instead of the usual 1. It is a major hiring year because many of the officers and cheifs are coming to the age when they have to retire(60) and Edmonton is going from 2 to 4-man aerials and building a new station at least that is the plan and all of that is in the budget request they made to city council.
you could also try Calgary, I dont know if they need guys as bad but it wouldnt suprise me. However Calgary has a year round hiring process and just takes guys when they need them unlike Edmonton who opens the posting to submit applications and then narrows it down from there.
Thats my two cents

Hey guys just too let you know Halifax is going to have a huge turn over so I'am told in the next 3 years. there next hiring could be in the late new year maybe even earlier don't quote me on that. nothing wrong with being part of the oldest fire service in canada and one of the oldest in north america. 24 probationy's started this year and there are still 40 on there hiring list word is that list may not make it too the end of the new year. cheers.

I talked to a firefighter at Edmonton Headquarters today because i went to look at the new aerial there and he told me they are having a class in spring 05. Maybe they told you spring 06 because the classes untill then are already full.
I dont know. just telling you what i heard

The classes up into 2006 are recruits 1-150, I believe they have put 2-3 classes (of 20ish recruits each) through, out of the 150 they ""hired"" (accepted) in early 2004.
However with the amount of drop outs or rejects via probation or the process they are will be hiring (or having a) competition sooner than orignally planned. Time will tell.
