SASKATOON - Reality television may be the latest craze, but Jared Mysko says it can't compare with what happens in his own backyard most nights.

Mysko relies on the real life drama of Saskatoon emergency crews to provide his nightly entertainment. He uses three radio scanners to eavesdrop on emergency dispatches around the clock.

"If you're ever bored," says Mysko, "you just turn on your scanner and there's just stuff happening all over the place at all times and it's entertaining."

Mysko has decided to share that entertainment by setting up a website. For the last three years, he's been broadcasting a scanner live over the internet.

"My uncle actually used to own CJGX," says Mysko. "When I was a little kid, I met him, and I thought that was really neat."

"I thought... I want to own my own station, so this is kind of what that is — it's my own radio station on the internet."

Mysko's station is nothing more than a computer strategically placed in the middle of his one-bedroom apartment. He programs a scanner to search the frequencies most often used by police, the fire department and ambulance services.

What is wrong with listing to a scanner? I do. It is on now actully. I find it interesting to listen to some times. So are you going to tell me to get a life? You are not even a EMS personel from any branch you once stated.

Yes, Actually RedDevil there are many cheifs, captians, firefighters, EMS, police, who have setup wepages similiar to this one.

I often listen online to the FDNY dispatch. They sure do get some interesting calls...

I personally don't listen to a scanner, i get enough of that at work. It's the weirdos that show up at fire scenes and MVA's with scanner in hand that need to get a life.....my 2 cent's

They are the dangerous ones we must worry about. That may cause a problem.

Thats the ones I worry about, the ones that listen to the scanners then show up to at the scene, thats a little to wierd for me, when they start snapping pics, jsut liek the guys website mentioned in the above article, if you look at the pics they are taken from the same person who the article is about, thats what i mean when i say get a life, nothing wrong with sitting at home and listening on occasion or when something big is going down. But to sit and listen and run out to a scene, your just getting in the way then!.

For the record Gallagher, I dont think i stated i was not in the fire service cause i am, just a little under 5 years as a professional and another 6 as a volunteer, ahhhh thank ya!!

I agree with red devil and others. But when I am the duty officer or out and about I like to leave my portable on scan. Then I know if we are going to be mutal aided or back the ambualnce. I know what is going down that got us triggered to be called so I can always be prepared and ready.

Lots of people have scanners at home in small communities. They all know everyone else's business and this is just another part of it. None of them go to the scene, it's just fodder for small talk the next day.
Thanks RD for coming clean. You do not have nearly 20 years experience as you stated in an earlier post. Maybe you, JG and I can get together and hunt some Mosse one of these days.
Take care,BCFIRE

My Parents live in a small town and my old man has a scanner. Whenever I visit I get an update on who had a grow op and got busted and what caught on fire...etc..... I just laugh at him, but it keeps him entertained..:D ...BC.....
