KELOWNA -- Eric Stoof's Astar helicopter hovered low over Okanagan Lake while he waited for another chopper to dip its orange bucket and make a strategic drop on a hot spot smoking behind a ridge nearby. This is the aerial campaign being waged against the Okanagan Mountain Park fire, a coordinated ballet of choppers and fixed wing aircraft armed with fire retardant and water. Stoof was one of the first to see the Okanagan Mountain forest fire from the air after a lightning strike ignited the blaze on a rocky hilltop Aug. 16.
