Planning to hike the Juan de Fuca Trail this long weekend or walk the dog in Gowlland Tod provincial park or go camping in the backcountry around Ucluelet? Forget it. The government has issued an unprecedented sweeping ban on backcountry travel in southern B.C. to reduce the risk of people starting more fires. The ban came as crews battled more than 800 fires across the province, including one near Cranbrook that has forced 211 people from their homes.
