Have you guys heard of this device? Here is a you tube clip www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0Ig5CENwxQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0Ig5CENwxQ)

This device is awesome. We had a fully involved structure fire last night. The fit-5 was deployed and pretty much extinguished the fire. We used about 5 gallons of water. Incredible piece of equipment......cost abou $1000/ device, but well worth it. I complained in fun and said it takes the fun out of firefighting.

We where given one of these devices from the Fire Within calendar. We joked about it, but now that we have used it - wow. Incredible.

Any one else using this?

I read up on the piece earlier this year, I've seen it on their website but never seen one in person. It really is an amazing device, probably one of those things that could possibly change the face of firefighting as we know it.

It's merely about getting Fire Services wrapped around the idea of the product.

It is going to change firefighting to a point. We hopefully will be able to get some more and try them in different scenario's. The apartment fire we had was closed - windows intact, doors closed, so it was a nice compartment fire. I do wonder if it will have the same outcome with broken windows and self ventilated fires.
I am jealous - i mean arent we supposed to fight our way in and put the fire out.....god - I felt like a janitor just mopping up. From an investigator standpoint it was excellent - very little water used and not a lot of scene contamination from fire suppression activities.

I am excited ( a little jealous) about this device. It has a lot of potential. It costs a lot, but hopefully that will come down with mass production, and maybe we can get insurance companies to support this device. I think it would make an invaluable first responder tool. Chuck it in and wait for reinforcments.

Ok, nice video, but how does this device work? Their website really doesn't even have a technical explanation.

Did some more digging - apparently their are a couple of different types. The fit that cost $1000 and the STAT-X that cost $150.00 huge price difference, but I cant see any real difference in what the products do.
Here are the web sites:
http://www.statx.com/index.php
www.arasafety.com/ (http://www.arasafety.com/)

It's like a tide commercial.....can you see the difference :)

Well something is up. Either FIT-5 is extremely better or they are WAY overcharging.

Spoke with the Fit - 5 rep yesterday and they said (non biased to a point) that you need 3-4 STAT-X to do the job of the FIT. Also said STAT is new on the market and doesnt believe any FD's have purchased any yet, where as the fit is on FD trucks in Red Deer, Chicago, some in New York, and many other departments. Apparently the FIT has been out for a couple of years, but is only now taking off.

I can see this one day replacing sprinklers. Less water damage and it seems to be more effective. I think I would prefer STAT-X because of its size. Something you could stuff in your pocket and use in an emergency (e.g. imminent flashover). Definitely a remarkable piece of engineering.

We've had ours for about two weeks now and all the facts and footage seem more than intruiging. As I understand it the Navy will be buying it for all of their ships too. I addition the federal prisons will be using them too. Overall this product could revolutionize fire supression. I'm not a rep but I'm certainly impressed!
