The wind-fueled firestorm suddenly rushed down the hill, travelling toward Kelowna at 100 metres per minute, spitting flame 70 metres ahead of itself. It was awesome and terrifying. "Some guys, they didn't think they were going to make it," says Mr. Pickett. "All of a sudden, the wind blew up and it was all around them and they couldn't get out. They called us on the cellphone. They said, 'Guys, we're going to die.'"
