I've been searching for some time for what someone would get tested on in a fitness test for an EMT course (I know the info's out there, I came across it once...tonight just isn't my night). What test is it (is it one of the ones the firefighter's get tested for?), what is expected of me, etc.?

(I'm sorry...that's worded bad, but I can't think straight for the life of me right now)

as far as i know in BC to get into the PCP course which im sure is the equivelant to EMT A, the physical wasnt too demanding, nothing like the firefighter physical.
You'd be looking at the usual,
-how many sit up can you do in 1min.
-# of push up you can do till exhaustion
-grip strength test
-flexability test, ( sit on the floor and see how far you can reach towards ur toes)
-vertical leep ( how high u can jump)
-lifting a stretcher with a wieghted dummy approx 150lbs ( with a partner helping)
-and a Run. ( around a track for 4 laps under 13 min. from what i can remember)
But this was the test a few years back, in 04, i may be missing a few minor details and requirements do change, but im sure if you can complete these tasks you shldnt have any issues, hope this gives you alittle insight on what to exspect.

If you google fit-tech you can find out exactly what the paramedic test(PCP) is. It is the same as the firefighter test except you don't do the upright row or shuttle run. The previous post missed pushups and there is no vertical jump. The run is a mile and a half as fast as you can and I believe you can walk it and still get within the required time for the PCP course(max. 20 min.) I think that they can get away with this in BC is because how many people are you going to attract to the job when you know you will be starting out being paid $2 an hour pager pay for aprox. 4-5 yrs. It is pretty easy if you workout on a regular basis.

Thanks!
Another question...I'm not from BC. Do you know if this course is Canada-wide and I can go to a different location and they send the results to JIBC, or do I have to go there?

Search PPAT...im doing the pcp course right now and that is the one i have to do in a month... very simple if you have done any firefighter fitness tests. Ours you do 4 laps of a gym, with 4 different stations set up 40 feet apart, there is lifting situps and push ups involved, thats about it, have to complete in under 6 min i think

It will vary depending on which school you are applying for and/or which service. Your best bet is to contact the specific party and get the information.
