The Epp family credits a lack of wind in normally breezy Metchosin with keeping a raging barn fire from spreading to their house early Thursday. The barn, about nine metres from the home, was destroyed in the blaze, along with a greenhouse, a woodshed and a chicken coop with 10 chickens inside. The Epps discovered the fire when they were jarred awake about 12:30 a.m.
