Hi everyone.
I've received a question through the OFBA website from a Mom looking for a helmet for a 6 year-old who is *really* interested in firefighting. The tricky part is that he's so interested, he wants something like the real thing, not one of those flimsy plastic helmets. I imagine she's looked online and scoured the toy stores, so I think she's looking for something beyond the standard kid's toys. I know that kids shouldn't wear adult helmets for fear of neck damage, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that can provide a more authentic firefighters helmet for kids?

I did a quick web search, but didn't have much luck. Lots of costumes there, but nothing helmet-wise that looks realistic.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Much thanks,
Dean

If you want Canadian, try KS Sirens. They have an online store (www.kssirens.com) and they used to have kids helmets. They weren't truly authentic looking, but were a lot better than the thin plastic ones that most departments give out during fire prevention week. If you don't mind shopping American, The Firestore has some and they have gear and boots for kids also (http://www.thefirestore.com/store/category.cfm/cid_88_kids_gear/).
Hope this helps.

Hey Uzbek,
been seeing an ad in one of the monthly publications that shows up at the hall, its for a whole set of turnouts for kids. next time I'm there I'll grab the ad & post it here.

irsqyu, thanks for posting that from toys r us, was gonna get my grandson one of those helmet heroes but all they had was a cop or a racecar driver. Nearest store is like 70k from here, but it'll be worth it if they have one ! reg and sound... too cool.

I was in Mastermind Toys not too long ago, they had a great helmet (Traditional style)

The website doesn't show the one in particular but it's a nice one, with the eagle too!

Thanks everyone. I advised her of the answers I was getting here and also of a friend who had an old helmet he was willing to part with for the cost of postage. However, she told me she managed to track something down in Minnesota - not sure if it was a kid's helmet or an adult one.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
