I'm hoping to establish the P.A.R.T.Y. (preventing alchohol related trauma in youth) in my community. Basically I'm hoping to stage a re-enactment of an MVC from when fire/ems shows up, the extrication/pt. packaging arrival to the ER and then a talk from a young adult and or friend who has had to deal with something similar. It will be focused towards the graduating high school class. Does anybody have any insight and/or recommendations. I'm hoping to pitch it to the chief and department before I send it to the school division, town council, local EMS, media and hospital. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time.

Forgot to mention, would strongly recommend this program be aimed at grade 9's or 10's. Let them see early on what can happen so they can be around to graduate. According to the RCMP in our area, they are amazed at the number of youth they stop, leaving party areas, who have a designated driver. We don't condone under age drinking, but give them a pat on the back for having designated drivers. They are smarter than the adults we usually deal with. Now if there where a program for the 30 year olds to witness a P.A.R.T.Y.

Contact MADD. They have run similar presentations in the past (its a combination video, talk from people charged/convicted/affected by impaired driving, and actual cars involved were placed around the schoo), minus the extrication process--I haven't seen them do it from the perspective of first responders, that seems like a great idea.

Funding wise, contact your provincial liqour board and local breweries--you'd be amazed at how willing they are throw money at things like that.

Cheers, and good luck,

RC

Thanks for the comments and imput. It will start a month from now and we will be going through the whole high school in our community. Funny thing was our chief already had this plan going I just didn't hear about it until yesterday! Either way I'm just happy to know that we're going to be putting that little voice in the back of kids heads that could prevent any tragedies. All the best, Take care and be safe.

Hey Jasper;
We ran the Party Program at our station for the last 2 years with great success; and even progressed to an 'After the Party Program' segment also. Unfortunately, when we booked the 2009 dates in the calendar in 2008, we didn't have a '09 school calendar and wound up booking some of the dates during school holidays...ooops. We will forgo the event for this year, but will be hosting again in 2010. If we can be of any assistance, give us a call at the station 403-652-3774.

It's great to see such a program in Jasper. LONG overdue! Good luck.

My oldest niece is graduating this year.

Hi there!

About 2 years ago I went to a PARTY program with a good friend at the local Hospital to help "control" the other kids ;) They do it every year and I must admit, it was amazing and pretty terrifying at the same time. The instructors led us step by step, from the accident all the way through the legal stuff. Before it though, we were in a small room and watched a slid show of MVAs and injuries (I believe most of the students learned never to drinka nd drive within the first 30 minutes). Then we were taken outside to a truck that was propped up against a tree and explained what happens when the paramedics arrive on scene (they treated it as a worst case senario). After that we were led into another room where the local police discribed how they would treat the accident. We were then led into the ICU where my friend who came with me, was on a stretcher with everything hooked up to her, and the nurses explained what they would do and that they would keep her alive until her organ donor papers came through (this was a shock to me) then they put a body bag over her. Then we went to the morge and then given a hour long speech by a man that was in an MVA and was paralized.

This is just a breif note on what happened. The whole expirence was very dramatic and I can safely say that everyone that goes through it will have a good chance of never drinking and driving.
