I was just curious how many of the guys and girls on the board have graduated from a pre-service program or a NFPA school?

Sorry for the stupid question, what do you mean by pre-service or NFPA school?
Be safe,

An Ontario Pre-Service school. It's the firefighting course created by the Ontario Fire Marshall. And NFPA school's mean like Texas A & M or like Fire ETC.

NFPA 472 DG Operations
NFPA 1051 Wildland
Not that they will garuntee you a position on a department, but they help when it comes to having a basic knowlege of what is what. Experience with emergency services is allways an asset.
A lot of guys have been hired out of school onto smaller departments (small cities etc) and then gain experience... some stay, some move on to bigger departments.
A lot of guys will say why take the courses and spend the money if they are just going to train you themselves, theres 2 arguements against that.
First, Edmonton for example, gave a NFPA 1001 Knowlege threshold test for their new perspective hires (as part of the hiring process). The test was basically a 1001-2 test and the passing mark was 80-90%.
Second, IMHO, I would much rather walk into training with some basic experience when it comes to the tools and strat's when it comes to hose handling ladders ropes etc...
Just some thoughts.

From what I'm hearing it will become mandatory within the next 3-5 yrs that all departments in Onterrible hire pre-service graduates. Pre-service endorsed by the OFM, that is.
The course itself is not difficult.......there's just a lot of volume.
