Calgary's fire department is looking at charging fees for attending false fire alarms, performing building inspections and cleaning up hazardous waste. Officials are quick to point out the potential move should be viewed as a way to recover costs, not generate revenue, and no fees would be applied to legitimate fires and emergencies. "We're not going to charge you if your house is on fire," said Ald. Craig Burrows, who praised the fire department for considering new ideas.
