Post Probation Seniority

Just wondering what other departments are doing out there in respect to probationary firefighters when they are done their one year to determine their seniority ranking within their class. Is it a one year exam or a combination of skills, exams, performance reviews ect.....

If a probie fails this are they canned or are their rewrites. Are your policies designed so that if someone who isn't great with the books but is a great, well rounded firefighter, the individual will pass the probation period?

When we are hired we are issued numbers the day we start and that is the way that we are placed on the seniority list.

We have one shot at the probationary test. Fail it and you could be canned.
