View Full Version : Need advice
This is also posted in hiring sorry for the re post but you may understand....
I got short listed for richmond and need to do my fire fit on the 14th..here is the catch. Fractured my ankle today. Avulsion fracture outside ankle...2 weeks before i can bare weight, talked with HR and let them know the deal and they can't hold my place or short list me for the next hire. I booked for the fit tech on the 14th anyways. Since the phyc exam is the 5th and I may be ok to run by the 14th, should I keep the date or bow out gracefully?...Of course this goes out to those of you not competing...lol
Honestly. I'm at a loss...

Thats a tough one man.
A few problems; lets say you tough it out, and the FD gets upset because it shows them you don't take your health or the health of your crew mates seriously---thats bad.
OR--they love your attitude, and it looks good.
Most likely, yer going to have to do comprehensive physical with the Dr., and He/she will know about your injury, and might prevent you from continuing----thats bad. Or, the Dr. might say you heal remarkably fast, and give you the go-ahead---thats good! :)
Tough situation all around. Assuming you will be mobile by the 14th, know what I'd do?? Hell, make it that far and screw myself because of an injury? Nope--I'd find a way to tough it out and go for it 100%.
Good luck, and let us know yer progress.
Cheers,
RC

Or perhaps you try to tough it out and end up reinjuring yourself. This new injury may end up far worse than the first one and put you out of the running for many more recruitments. You know yourself best and know the extent of your injury. Only you can decide what will be best! Sometimes things happen for a reason, and maybe you are destined for another city or a later time with this one. Good Luck, whatever you decide!

tape it up and watch rudy before you go, i dont see you seriously damaging it (agree/disagree?) maybe just adding a week or two to the healing process. chase the dream brah, its not like an athlete hasnt played through the pain.

lol love it ...rudy. Went back to emerg yesterday. It's worse than i thought. Im in a cast for the next 3 weeks or so, reluctantly i withdrew, if i can't go full bore there is no sense in risking another injury. good luck to all.

I cant agreed more with fire cracka. I would do a serious tape job(not yourself, but from a sports therapist) and pop a few Tylenol. If you can get your hands on a good brace I would even use that( the one with the fibre support bars) And wish for the best.
But ultimately, its your choice, and I would follow your own intution on this, as there is a good chance you will futher injury yourself
Good luck.
