Rain: To the people fighting fires in B.C.'s southern Interior, it's the difference between winning and losing, and on Monday they came a little closer to winning. Between four and five millimetres -- or slightly more than the height of a capital letter on this page -- fell between Vernon and Penticton in the early hours of Monday morning, but that was enough to lift firefighters' spirits and enable 4,250 Kelowna-area residents evacuated from their houses because of the Okanagan Mountain Park fire to return to their homes.
