Looking for a little help. Anyone who wrote the "Humber Entrance Test" is it like writing a CPS test?It says i'll be there for 5 hours, how long is the test?It says to study chemistry? If i study the Barrons and the other study guide book that i use to study for the CPS tests, will i be ok? Let me know. Thanks.
P.S. Double Helix, good luck on your midland CPS tests, and when did you take the TFS career prep course? Cause i just took it in sept of 2004.

i was accepted into the toronto prep course for this last session but decided not to go. was it worth it? I was under the impression that it was very basic and I have completed humber already. of course the more the merrier but i made my decision and have to live with it i guess. let me know if its worth me reapplying next year...and rec24, i sent you a private message regarding humber....good luck

Everyting fire related is worth it.........for $200........darn right it was worth it. I think it was a great course........a fun day of hands on at the Toronto Fire Academy........and the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth.......that's how they teach the course. You could ask them anything........anything at all, and believe me people did........and they'll answer honestly.
I've taken many courses.........and I'm 1/3 way through the Pre-service...............still it was a great course to take.

It's a CPS test or Humbers version of one im not too sure but just study the barrons or norman halls. Also they get you to do a writing passage on why you want to be a firefighter. I got in with a 84 or 82 and absolutely nothing on my resume except part tiem jobs since I was 14. Good luck!!

What helix said just shows, those colleges try and make you believe that its tough competition to get into the program by making ya right a test and all, sure you have to pass the test, If you do you are pretty well guranteed a spot, what it comes to the amount of $$$$$ these places are charging, they try and fit as many students into the program as they can

yeah but like a 600 people apply and they only give like 36 spots so in reality it isnt easy to get in.

Gotta agree with devil on this. The colleges know a cash grab when they see it.Ive seen it with ambulance programs, lots of candidates so they double the class size. The testing for that is as stringent as the fire course.
The market gets saturated and the quality goes down.Law and security is another one most police forces wont even look at anyone with that diploma.

Most Depts will look at your fire service diploma as a plus, not the be all and end all. They are interviewing and hiring the man/woman not the piece of paper.

Well said DentedHead, every college now from the real school type colleges to the joke ones that operate out of old office buildings are offering police foundations programs, its a joke now what the police foundations programs are, and hate to say it but thats the way the fire prep courses are gonna end up like

i heard a rumour that the association of fire chiefs is trying to slow down the number of grads coming from community college programs. Its true in many training institutions, the more students you pump out the more $$ in your pocket. one good thing i guess is some departments require the course to apply and if you look at the quality of most of the students coming out of these schools the competition really isnt that fierce. I'll bet maybe 10 of the 36 from my class will ever be firefighters.

Yeah Tom thats similar to my class. Most people will apply to a couple places and then realize the amount of competition and then just get comfortable with a full time job and forget about it. It's the ones that stick with it and keep on educating themselves because they want to learn more and kepp up their skills will get the job.

Thanks for getting back to me. All of you, i appreciate it. Pumper 99, i was in the tuesday class and you? And to all who got an interview from mississauga, GOOD LUCK! (and if possible, maybe let some of us know how it went, and maybe what the questions were:) ) But if you don't want to thats cool, i understand. And TomC, thanks for info and i wrote you back. And to all writing of applying to London GOOD LUCK, me, won't be there, had the OS, had the York fitness, but my pre-entry from the fire academy is not recognized by the OFM so i talk to London HR before i applied so that i wouldn't waste my money. Hence, why i am trying to get into any college to get my pre-service. I was all set to go to Fire etc, but after reviewing my finances and getting all your guys input, decided not to go. (is more of the finances or lack there of) So anyway, take care and i'll talk to you guys soon. P.S. anybody know any good medical courses other than BTLS,and first responder/first aid level etc..., got those, that one could take?

I'm planning on doing first aid/cpr instructor in the spring. I might be making a class up through Diamond medical where you organize your own class so if you would be interested I could definetly add your name. Not a forsure thing but im pretty sure its goin to happen.

Because I would rather work in my hometown or Toronto but ultimately I want it bad enough im willing to move and start a new life somwhere. Moving means leaving my family, friends and lots of other stuff but if whoever hires me im prepared to move.
