Shouldn't matter, it won't really influence the flavour. It's purpose is more for the moisture from the steam it generates. You can use a plain old can of coke if you prefer as well.

Do you find much of the beer evaporates? i tried last summer and the chicken was moist but i don't think i lost any of the beer, other than what i drank :).
What kind of spices do you rub your bird with??? i am looking for a premixed variety, we like Irie caribean spice, we also use lemon rind chooped, prochutio?, and time mixed in butter, put directly on meat under skin so it bakes in.

I've always liked a little Olive oil with a Chicago Chicken Spice (can be picked up in a large container at Costco) and a generous amount of salt on the inside.

Stick sprigs of rosemary and thyme in the can so that as the beer steams it will help to infuse the herbs!

I thought olive oil should not be heated/ cooked with becuse it can become bad for you/carcinagenic?, thats why they suggest vegitable oil or coconut oil for high heat.

I think its vegetable oil that releases toxins when heated? OO is one of the best oils, but it has a low smoke point, so is not good for cooking on high heat. Coconut oil has a much higher smoke point and is super healthy too.
Another one I've heard of but never tried is grapeseed oil... supposedly even better yet?

prochutio?
Prosciutto Pro (roll the r) Shoot (twist lips so upper goes left and lower goes right) Toe (tilt head like you're saying F off in one jerking motion from start to finish)
My beautiful and sweet and considerate girlfriend schooled me on this at one time too. There was nothing beautiful sweet or considerate about it. And I feel like less of a man every time we go into a deli or market because she has to order (or-dah)
I am just trying to help out bro hahaha. I couldn't let you continue with prochutio. One day you'll thank me haha.

As far as the Oils go, the better the oil is for you the lower the smoke temperature, of course this is just generalized as we all know there are really no rules for anything. I don't know that it makes them carcinogenetic but at 350 degrees Olive oil contains trans fats at lower temperatures it does not, some sorta chemistry thing I am sure that there is a name for it and that chemistry thing may not be the correct phrasing.
Oh yeah I knew there was a reason I don't order Prosciutto.

When we were in Florence the meat man would mock me to her saying in Italian how if I cannot order for her how can I treat her properly haha.
It hasn't been let down. I wanted to help :).
I find that the cheaper the beer the better!
and be sure to use a large pan so as you can fill it with veg's as people will be fighting over the vegies/fruit cooked in the broth......potatos (all sorts)/carrots/onions/zuch/etc even apples! and dont put them all in at once....as they have different cooking times
and salt up the bird before you start....oven or BBQ...with or without beer...always a hit!
bet I've made 100 of these over the years
Did three birds at once not to long ago!
Drink the beer and use pop instead. I have found that 7 up, ginger ale adds a sweet flavour to the meat. Also if you add a montreal chichen spice on the outside it creates a very dish as well. Experiment and you will be happy every time with the results

We have beer can chicken alot at our house. Was making it one day and realized we had no beer so i used a can of ginger ale and since that day, we haven't used anything else. Something with that stuff makes it really juicey.

As said earlier, it doesn't have to be beer. I've used different sodas also with good results.

the best thing i saw was to get a hypodermic(obviously a clean one, unless you want some awkward seasoning) and actually inject the beer into the meat!!!

Ohhh god that is such great chicken!
I've never tried it injecting the beer into it...but something worth trying for sure! What's there to lose?
