Mountie dies in highway crash
Laura Knop | Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 1:21 pm

An RCMP officer has been killed in a collision in the Millet area south of Edmonton.

RCMP say the officer was on duty conducting traffic services when the accident occurred Tuesday morning. The accident forced the closure of Highway 2A between Millet and Township Road 472, south of Millet.
RCMP are investigating and are expected to release more information late Tuesday afternoon.

Sad, indeed. What is more sad is the publics perception.

On the comments down below, The poor guy is getting the book thrown at him. Sounds like some of the same stuff that happens on forums.

I've always had respect for police officers, and I've known quite a few.

Thoughts are with Cst. James Lundblad tonight.

Whether it was a mistake or accident that caused this, we cannot forget that this is a man who dedicated his life to public safety. We as firefighters appreciate this, and we know that regardless of the minority who criticize, this officer deserves to be remembered with respect and honour. Does a police officer killed in a traffic accident (or a fireman killed in the same manner) deserve any less respect than one killed in a gunfight (or a fireman killed in a fire)? Of course not. One must be judged on his full body of work, and in this, and all cases of emergency services deaths, it's not the end result, but the courage of service that must be honoured.... regardless of what "Joe Nobody comment poster" thinks.

Most news sites are full of folks just looking to bash someone. I find that CBC is the worst though. It's unreal how most of the people there become expert investigators when something happens involving the police, fire or paramedics. I used to post there but stopped because most of them don't even want to listen to anything you have to say or they just resort of personal attacks.

May Cst Lundblad RIP.

Lets put the finger pointing to rest, we all know in the emergency setting that we have seconds to make a decision and when its all done theres always people that have hours to pick it apart and lay blame on somebody. I knew James well. I was an auxillary constable in Edson and had been on a few patrols with him. I'm also a volly FF and a full timer with Edson EMS, there we had been on many accidents, fires, and a few domestics. On our days off that fell on the same days we spent some time together trying to understand why people did what they did. Some things will never be explained. Anyway what I'm trying to say is that he'll be missed by all of us here in Edson and all of who worked with and enjoyed life with James. He loved his job, his fellow mountie and some of the lucky people he let into his life along the way.

My condolences go out to his family.

You will be missed brother, RIP.

Very impressed on the turnout from all who came to show their respect for a fellow police officer. I attended the service in Valleyview, AB and saw members from all across Canada as far away as Halifax, my home town. Hats off to all who showed up and to all that was there in spirit. James was proud to see all that loved him.

Cheers.
