In a twist of fate, firefighters did battle with a small grass fire burning directly across the river from the Kamloops Fire Centre Tuesday. Crews from both the B.C. Forest Service and Kamloops Fire and Rescue responded at about 3:15 p.m., minutes after the one-hectare blaze started near the Kamloops sewage treatment plant. Billowing drifts of gray smoke floated across a sewage access road, engulfing two initial attack crews and three fire trucks spraying down the fire with water.
