Picture this......
you have a chimney fire and the chimney is 38 ft in the air you have the ladder in place and your on the ladder the leg lock won,t let you work... how or do you tie off?

your working on a roof and its a pretty good height, do you use saftey ropes and again do you tie off......
we were talking about this the other day and i personally don,t know how you would tie off when working off a ladder do you fasten the harness to the ladder?

help help help......

If the chimney were accessible, we would probably bring in our aerial truck, and have the member work from the tip. We have done this on previous occasions, when the stability of the chimney were in question, or when we felt it was unsafe to work from a high ground ladder.

If we were using a ground ladder for access to a high roof, we would tie off the ground ladder to ensure it would not move. Once on the roof, a roof ladder of appropriate length would be used. If necessary, the roof ladder can be tied off by entending a line from the tip to a stable point on the opposite side of the building. As an example, you ladder the alpha side, you could extend a line over the charlie side, and tie it into something stable on the ground.

If on a roof, and footing were questionable (which we see a lot with wet shake roofs), a safety line clipped into the roof ladder, and into a personal ladder belt, should secure you if you slip and fall.

I am sure that there are other great ideas in use. Hope this helps with your question. :)

Stay safe !!

Similar here.

We would tie off with a ladder belt if the leg lock won't work, and if we can't work on the roof ladder (or don't trust it), we would throw a line over the roof.

An aerial truck! Dare to dream. We wish.
We'd be climbing our sorry a$$es into the air! Probably be windy as you-know-what and -25 to boot!!
We use roof ladders and extension ladders. Sigh!!
