Markham will be hiring soon. Does anyone know anything about them? What kind of numbers they are looking for, what the dept. is like, etc? I'm assuming they will use the CPS.

I've heard they might only open their recruitment to full time firefighters. Other departments would be super pissed at them but I guess they have enough interest there.

Geez, that would suck? Which others are going this way??

I applied to Burlington volunteer 2 years in a row. The first time they said I was under qualified and needed PreService, DZ. The second time my resume was stacked, I was the first to interview, had an impeccable interview, and they said I was more suited for a full time position.

Can there be a more frustrating career to attain?

But can there be a better career to attain? Aside from jobs with tons of money involved I can't see a job thats better. Everyone agrees just not everyone can see themselves doing the things you full time guys do and us guys want to do.

Applications will be accepted from January 29, 2005 to February 15, 2005

The Town of Markham currently has positions available for Probationary Firefighters. Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age, at time of application, eligible to work in Canada and have a minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education, (although a post-secondary degree in a related field is desirable). For the safety of themselves, their partners, and the general public, firefighters are required to be physically and mentally fit, have the ability to communicate clearly in English under stressful situations, have clean driving records and have no criminal records unless pardons have been granted under the Criminal Records Act (Canada) that have not been revoked. You must also meet the prescribed hearing requirements without artificial aids and meet uncorrected 20/30 vision and colour vision requirements. Successful candidates will be required to obtain a DZ driver's licence within 6 months of employment.

I grew up in Markham and they are very much like us here in Vaughan, very progressive, have alot of money and are growing like crazy.
Their Chief is very young as is the Deputy so they are willing to listen istead of the "Well that's how it's always been so that's how it'll stay" mantality, so if anyone is thinking about going, go it'll be a great place to work.
