After a fire interview, are you supposed to fax or mail all those on the panel a "thank you" letter like most other interviews?

I dont think so, knowing HR they are so busy they wouldnt even look at it, it would go right into the files, you know the ones im talking about right, the one that gets emptied every night and go into a big old bin, never to be seen again

I have never heard of this practice and got hired without doing it. Even when I worked for an automotive manufacturer I didn't do that and got hired.

The thank you letter after an interview is an other way to get YOUR name in their face one more time.

After the first few steps of the selection process, everybody begins to be pretty much equal. If one name comes up more often then others, as long as it's not abused, then they can slowly start to be biased. You no longer are a number for them, they start to recognise your name.

That is also why you always ask questions in an interview when they ask you if you have any. Always prepare a question ahead of time. Our interviews are 10 questions. Everybody get the same ones. So, if you score even with others on the interview, one way to come on top is to ask an intelligent, well formulated question at the end. Again, be noticed.

I sent one to the rep from HR and to the Deputy Chief, who sat on the interview board. Did they read it? I don't know. But I know one thing, I finished first.

Good Luck

i think thats good advise. I wouldnt recommend it necessarily for a first interview but after the second it cant hurt. like you said, the more they see your name the better...
sincerely, applicant # 866

The Web site you are reffering to was put together by what was then Pittsburgh Twp. Since amalgamation, they are known as Kingston East. That is why the site only reffers to 3 stations. We have a Web site (http://www.kingstonfirefighters.org) but it is mainly union oriented.

Kingston is hiring at least 16 in 2005. The hiring process is not decided yet. Rumor is the Chief wants to hire from our volunteers.

And rightly so they should have first crack, no one better then to hire from your own stock

Rescue78 I heard that to about the hiring in K-town. I know of a few Volly's that will be applying. I hope it is open to all though because I would hate not to have a crack at Kingston as I am a volunteer just outside the city.

His intentions are to hire from the City's volunteers. I'll let you know if I hear anything different.

As someone who has been around a large FD hiring process for many years I can assure you that a thank-you letter to the interviewer panel is not expected. If it happened it would be viewed as strange and sucking up rather then in a positive way. Never seen one in all my years of being part of the recruitment team. Simply not part of FD tradition in Western Canada.

I need some advice, I just had an interview with department X, it is down to myself and three other candidates for one job. I have sent thank you letters in the past after an interview, no harm no foul I made the list with that dept (dept Y) but now I am second guessing on sending out a letter this time. The last thing I want to come accross is a suck up.
Thanks for any advice
